New technology has seen the introduction of LED Televisions. There has been a fair amount of talk around cyber space, gadget shops and online forums surrounding this new LED Television revolution. So what exactly is LED Television and why has it become so important when choosing a new TV set?

It may surprise you to know that in fact LED Television is in fact LCD Television. Thats right there is actually no such thing as LED TV. These new televisions are LCD, but you see LCD does not produce its own light source so it has to be “backlit” using LEDs.

Edge Lit LED Televisions, Whats That?

The LED lights only run around the very edge of the television screen. Though, the nature of LED lights means that they still distribute the light evenly all across the screen area. The main advantge of the edge lit method is the amazingly thin screen these LED televisions offer you.

Full Array LED Television

In an Edge Lit LED Television the LED lights are arranged around the screen edge, but in a Full-Array set the LED lights are arranged in dense rows behind the entire screen area. This has a number of benefits.

Firstly, the power consumption is less, which is good for your energy bill in these days of rapidly rising costs.

Secondly, the picture is brighter and far more life-like. And finally, a Full-Array LED Television allows for local dimming. This is very cool technology and…in the black areas of the picture, the LED lights actually turn off. This means the blacks are amazingly deep and true which in turn means you get stunning contrasts and the most amazing TV picture you could imagine.
