LED (Light Emitting Diodes) Lights - What Make LED TV Pictures so Stunning!
There is no doubt that the popularity of LED TV is on a steady upward curve! And it’s easy to see why as there are some very definite benefits of LCD v LED TV or Plasma. The technical difference is that they use LEDs for lighting as opposed to the CCFLs, this is what gives a LED TV its energy efficiency…it’s estimated energy savings could be as high as 40%
What Is LED TV?
With the huge advances in HD TV technology one of the first things you should look for in a new LED TV is the picture quality. And it’s fair to say that with LED TV, the picture quality is superior when compared with conventional LCD or Plasma TVs.
Not only do the LEDs, (light-emitting diodes), save on power they also provide a brighter more dynamic display. They also produce a better white light as well (something to do with holistic spectrums that I don’t understand).
One huge benefit though is that LED screens do no degrade as fast as LCD or Plasma. Another win for the LED in the LCD v LED TV argument! Since the dawn of HD TV Plasma degradation has been an issue. I was an early adopter of Plasma and within 3 years the set was starting to show the strain.
After five years screen burn had become a major issue.
With LCD screens it’s that old chestnut motion blur and screen fading that are the issues. But, LED lighting offers an extended screen life and the quality fo picture remains strong and bright for much longer. Again this is to do with the better quality light that is produced by a LED TV. This in turn leads to vivid colors on the screen and amazing contrasts that are well in advance of LCD and Plasma. LED also allows for local dimming. This is where black areas of the screen actually turn off, so the black is deep and true, adding further to the stunning contrast. So high quality images and picture quality are certainly one of the biggest benefits of LED TV.
LED TV Energy
I mentioned the lower power consumption earlier when comparing to earlier HD TV sets. In the world of today, where energy is so expensive and there are global issues to address power saving is a key issue. LED TVs use up to 40% less power than a traditional LCD TV. Whatever way you look at that figure, it is a big saving…and contributes to the longer lifespan of the TV as well!
LED TV Design
Another advantage that sets LED TVs apart from their predecessors is their sleek and compact design which is so elegant and attractive. Lets face it a LED TV looks good even if its not on!
This also means that you new LED TV will take up less space. Some sets are just a few centimetres in thickness and newer sets now have such a thin bezel, it’s like looking through a crystal clear window into a different HD TV world. Many LED TV sets are now starting to include integral wireless or detached media boxes which emans you can in some instances even get rid of that annoying “spaghetti mess” of wires that lurks behind your TV! My wife thinks this is a huge benefit!
LCD v LED TV – The Screen
Modern LED TVs have high gloss screens that are designed to enhance the image you see…make it brighter andmore vibrant. However, despite this high gloss they do not show a reflection. Again this was a problem, particularly on early Plasma TVs. The glossy screens also tend to be more durable when compared with matt screens, helping the longer lifespan.
Most of the newer LED TVs will include Internet Apps and he ability to stream content and movies from various sites such as Netflix. They will also have a host of other connectivity that allows you to hook up pretty much any device you could imagine to your TV. This gives you access to huge archives of content, TV shows, movies and online content.
LCD v LED TV Prices
There is no doubt LED TV brings amazing benefits, for example high quality picture, energy savings, wireless communication and compact design. The LED TV is a great stride forward in viewing quality and as prices are now starting to fall, we can safely say LED TV is here to stay and in the LCD v LED TV stakes, LED TV is a clear winner!
