Aussies Spending Big on 3D TVs

3D LED TV Bundle Offers

3D titles due for release shortly include Saw 3D, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, TRON:Legacy, The Green Hornet, Pirates of the Caribbean: on Stranger Tides, The Green Lantern and a 3D Justin Bieber film. So now is a really good time to look at 3D LED TV Bundles.

“So content is available and will be in increasing numbers as the major studios invest heavily in 3D,” he wrote in his submission.

Video games are also expected to be a major driver of 3D, led by the Sony PlayStation 3. PS3 owners received two firmware upgrades earlier this year enabling 3D games and 3D movie playback.

Right now PS3 owners are able to get the following 3D titles: SuperStardust, PAIN, Wipeout HD, EyePet, Flight Control, NBA 2K11 and Shaun White Skateboarding.

Sony Australia said the following 3D titles were “coming soon”: The Fight, The Sly Collection, Gran Turismo 5, MotorStorm Apocalypse, Call of Duty: Black Ops, Killzone 3, Tron Evolution, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Future Solider, Mortal Kombat, Crysis 2 and Ico Shadow of the Colossus Collection.

But the content providers are scared that the forthcoming National Broadband Network coupled with the advent of internet-enabled TVs will be a boon for pirates. 3D films have been safe from piracy because of their significantly larger file sizes.

“IPTV and the NBN combined will allow in the near future high data streams such as 3D movies directly into the lounge room circumventing the traditional broadcast models of free-to-air TV,” Bush wrote.

Bush added he was in discussions with the government on how to reduce piracy, such as by legislating a “graduated response” scheme that would disconnect repeat offenders from the internet.

“If film and TV piracy is allowed to remain unchecked then this will undermine not only the significant 3D TV investments but also broadcasting more generally in Australia,” he wrote.

Expecting a rush of buyers this Christmas, TV manufacturers are falling over themselves to offer attractive 3D TV Bundles.

Buyers of Sony 3D TVs receive a PlayStation 3, two 3D movies, four 3D games and 3D glasses. From Monday, buyers of Samsung 3D-enabled TVs will received a free 22-inch Samsung LED TV, four 3D Blu-ray movies (How to Train Your Dragon and three IMAX 3D features) and four 3D glasses.

So, with the Aussies going mad for 3D TV, what’s the scenario in the U.S? Well, as prices start to come down they are certainly being taken up more seriously. And there are some very good deals on 3D LED TVs although there is not as much “bundling” here. But as the price of 3D technology comes down and economies of scale kick in, we are bound to see more uptake of 3D TV.
