More 3D Content Boosts 3D TV Demand
Digital television transmission has many reasons for its penetration, other than mere customer demand for high quality audio and video content. The television broadcasters themselves like the capability of this form of transmission which allows for more channels in the same spectrum. This also leads to lowering of cost and therefore higher profits for the broadcasters. There is also the pressure been mandated by government administrati9ve bodies to move over to digitized TV transmission at the earliest. This report has been penned by GIA. 3D TV therefore has also made rapid progress given the high degree of digitization that is creeping into television transmission.
However, with 3D format gaining fast popularity and progress, there still exists one major issue to be addressed at all times — compatibility of the 3D format amongst different makes of TV. Brand names like Samsung, LG, Sony, and Panasonic though have launched their individual products with 3D capability in them but all of them yet lack compatibility which is a severe shortcoming. With 3D production process being cost intensive given the high degree of complexity in technology that is involved, this compatibility factor plays an important role in the acceptability of 3D format in the television sector.
The future of 3D TV is predicted to be very bright given the major players of the industry backing this format. Progress has been made in the form of direct lit LED panel and ultra slim design of the panels too. These changes are expected to enhance demand of the technology and product in the coming days. The other area of interest so far as 3D technologies in TV sets go is the increase in screen dimension that is coming in with every new model. There is also the slow but steady swing away from active technology to the passive technology where the glasses to be worn for 3D viewing is much more user friendly than that used in active technology sets. There is going to be a complete shift towards passive sets by 2015 as per market predictors. This would also mean lowering of cost of the sets which the makers are already coming in with.
With the sets also being internet connected ones, the increase of bandwidth in net connectivity means better speeds over the net. Consumers would get higher content across the net direct to the 3D capable sets in their homes. This is one more factor that is adding to the demand for 3D TV sets. 3D TV would have further fillip in its demand with the new service packages that are coming up, including the ongoing efforts towards lower of costs of the 3D TV sets.
Survey that has been carried out indicates that the largest market for 3D TV sets in volume shipped has been the US. The rate of increase in market demand however is held by the Asia Pacific region with the growth in demand rate being a whooping 122 percent. These areas have large number of devices that are smart and can be connected to the 3D capable TV set, like the Smartphone, Tablets etc. Other survey indicates that passive TV sets are crossing over the active technology based sets, and the reason being the glasses required, price factor and the better technological advances that are being made in passive 3D sets. SG technology as per the reports is expected to shrink considerably by 2015.
